24th Paellas Festival Hotel El Cortez October 4th, 2025
This event is always a community favorite, great food and music raising money for Cancer.
Every year, the El Cortez Hotel in San Felipe, Baja California, hosts one of the region’s most anticipated culinary and cultural events: the Paella Festival. This vibrant celebration brings together locals, visitors, chefs, and food enthusiasts to honor the Spanish tradition of paella while showcasing the unique flavors of Baja.
The festival is held on the hotel’s beachfront grounds, offering sweeping views of the Sea of Cortez as the backdrop to a lively day of food, music, and community. Dozens of teams, including professional chefs, local restaurants, and amateur cooks, compete to prepare the best Paella. Large pans of saffron-infused rice simmer over open flames, filled with fresh seafood, meats, and vegetables. The aroma of garlic, peppers, and shellfish fills the air, creating an atmosphere that is both festive and mouthwatering.
Guests are invited to sample the different paellas, each with its own twist on the classic Spanish dish. Some highlight the bounty of the Sea of Cortez with shrimp, clams, and fish, while others incorporate chicken, pork, or even vegetarian options. The competition is judged by a panel of experts, but the real joy comes from tasting the wide variety of flavors and enjoying the creativity of the participants.
Beyond the food, the Paella Festival is a cultural experience. Live music, traditional dance performances, and local artisans add to the festive spirit. Families and friends gather under the sun, sharing food and laughter, while visitors from around the world discover the warmth and hospitality of San Felipe.
The Paella Festival at the El Cortez Hotel has become a signature event that not only celebrates Spanish culinary heritage but also highlights the vibrant community of San Felipe. It is a feast for the senses and a tradition that continues to grow in popularity each year.
